Colorado Democratic Party Passes Resolution on the Employee Free Choice Act PDF Print E-mail

Denver, Colorado - During the Colorado Democratic Party's 2009 state reorganization, the Colorado State Central Committee unanimously passed a resolution in support of the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA).

The Employee Free Choice Act will give employees the choice to form a union by majority sign-up or secret ballot; provide for first contract mediation and arbitration; and establish meaningful penalties for violations of a worker's freedom to choose a union.

The U.S. Congress is expected to swiftly move the legislation, which has the support of President Obama, Vice President Biden, Labor Secretary Solis and majorities in both houses of Congress. Members of Congress from Colorado who have signed on as co-sponsors of the bill include: Reps. DeGette (D-1), Polis (D-2), J. Salazar (D-3), Markey (D-4), and Perlmutter (D-7).

The passage of the resolution was strongly supported by the committee and was passed immediately after the body approved a new Labor Initiative.

"Democrats always have supported working class citizens," said Pat Waak, Chair of the Colorado Democratic Party. "They are the mainstay of our party, and we believe that their voice must be heard."
