Denver, Colorado - Colorado Democratic Party Chair Pat Waak today
applauded the signing of the historic Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay
Restoration Act. President Obama signaled the importance of the
principle of equal pay for equal work by making the Lilly Ledbetter
Fair Pay Restoration Act the first bill signed during his presidency.
The Act will ensure that American workers are treated fairly under the law by correcting wage disparities.
"President Barack Obama today sent a powerful message about our
commitment to equality and economic opportunity for every American by
making good on his promise to pass the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay
Restoration Act," said Pat Waak "At a time when families around
Colorado are struggling to address the current economic crisis, it is
more important than ever that our economy works. Democrats fought hard
to pass this legislation and end the wage disparities that have
resulted in women making just 78 cents for every dollar men earn. That
disparity hurts not only women but all of our families, and I am proud
that President Obama signaled the importance of the principle of equal
pay for equal work by making the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration
Act the first bill signed during his presidency."
