Waak Touts Obama Budget Plan for Historic Investments in Energy Independence, Affordable Health Care and Education

Denver - As Congress begins to take up President Obama's budget plan, Colorado Democratic Party Chair Pat Waak issued the following statement in support of the President's plan to rebuild and renew America by investing in energy independence, affordable health care and schools and by bringing honesty and responsibility back to the budget.

"Here in Colorado people are hurting. With families struggling to pay their bills, it's clear we need to act now to get our economy moving again, create jobs and lay the foundation for long term prosperity. That's why it is so important that Republicans and Democrats in Congress support President Obama's ground breaking budget plan.

"The President's plan responds to the economic crisis which he inherited and the need to cut wasteful spending. We need to make tough choices now-choices we've avoided for too long-to end the era of fiscal irresponsibility and deficit spending that is leaving our country bankrupt. Coloradans are tightening their pocket books, and the federal government should do the same.

"Equally important, this budget invests in America's future. By investing in energy, health care, and education, we will be putting Coloradans back to work and making 21st century improvements to areas that have been neglected for too long. And we will be creating an opportunity for the private sector to thrive.

"Times are tough, but the future is not bleak. By making these tough choices now, we can get our country back on track. Every Member of Congress should join President Obama in passing a budget that rebuilds and renews America now."
