Denver, Colorado - The vacancy committee for Senate District 33 met tonight to select a successor to Senator Peter Groff.

In a majority vote, Mike Johnston received approval from the committee to complete Senator Groff's current term in the Colorado General Assembly.

"We will miss Senator Groff's leadership," said Pat Waak, Chair of the Colorado Democratic Party. "However, we know that he will apply his commitment and enthusiasm to helping communities across the country fulfill the promise of the Obama Administration."

"Mike Johnston worked hard to promote his candidacy against an excellent field of candidates. We congratulate the new Senator for SD33 and look forward to working with this fine addition to the Colorado majority."
