Report Praises Proposed Health Insurance Reform Legislation

Washington, DC - Yesterday, the Business Roundtable, an association of chief executives from leading US companies, released a report highlighting the importance of health insurance reform legislation to the nation's businesses and highlighting the high cost of inaction.  The report says the proposed health insurance reform offers "real promise, not only to save federal dollars, but also to reduce the rate of increase in private sector spending."  It concludes that if we do not pass health insurance reform, large employers will spend on average $28,530 per employee on health insurance by 2019 – a 166 percent increase from today.

The report said that if we do pass health reform legislation, those same employers will save $3,000 per employee by 2019.

"The latest report from the Business Roundtable is yet another important reminder of the urgent need to pass health insurance reform.  This report proves what Coloradans have known for too long, that the current health system is simply unsustainable for families, for the government and for businesses.  Under proposed health reform legislation, large businesses stand to save $3,000 per employee by 2019," said Colorado Democratic Party Chair Pat Waak. "Passing reform isn’t just about ensuring all Americans have access to quality, affordable health care, it’s critical to increasing the strength and competitiveness of America’s largest businesses."

Business Roundtable is an association of CEOs of some of the most well known and successful companies in the nation.  Business Roundtable joins an array of other groups from across the political spectrum supporting reform including the AARP, the American Medical Association, nurses and the American Cancer Society.
