Dwayne Romero Earns Spot in DCCC’s Red to Blue Program as Democrats Put Every GOP-Held House Seat in Play

DENVER — The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee named Dwayne Romero, the Democratic nominee in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District, to its Red to Blue program, adding to growing Democratic momentum across Colorado’s congressional map.

Romero joins Jessica Killin in the 5th Congressional District and Manny Rutinel in the 8th Congressional District in the Red to Blue program. The DCCC has also identified Eileen Laubacher’s race against Republican Lauren Boebert in the 4th Congressional District as a District in Play, putting all four Republican-held Colorado congressional seats on the 2026 battlefield.

This designation is in addition to the Colorado Democratic Party (CDP) awarding counties in Western and Southern Colorado with infrastructure grants to support Romero and local candidates, and investing in CO3 through its coordinated campaign with advertising and staff in the district after historically being ignored in past cycles. This marks the second cycle in a row that CO-3 has been part of CDP’s coordinated campaign.

“Dwayne Romero’s campaign is proving what those of us out west have known all along: the 3rd is competitive and winnable. Every Republican-held congressional seat in Colorado is in play because of the GOP’s disastrous agenda hurting rural Colorado,” said Colorado Democratic Party Chair Shad Murib. “He’s running a strong campaign rooted in Western and Southern Colorado, and we’re going to compete everywhere this November.”

Romero, an Army combat veteran and former Aspen city councilman, is challenging Republican Rep. Jeff Hurd in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District. The district, which covers much of the Western Slope and Southern Colorado, has not elected a Democrat to Congress since 2008.

The DCCC added Colorado’s 3rd and 4th Congressional Districts to its Districts in Play list in August, joining the Republican-held 5th and 8th districts. Democrats are now mounting competitive campaigns for every Republican-held U.S. House seat in Colorado.
