New Investigation Reveals More of Marx’s Shady Campaign Spending
Hundreds of thousands spent on out-of-state security, family and friends
DENVER – A new CPR investigation today into Republican Victor Marx’s campaign finance reports shows his campaign has frittered much of its money on shadowy out-of-state security, family and friends, associates from his All Things Possible Ministry, and so-called consultants without any campaign experience. One longtime attorney and conservative political strategist called Marx’s campaign expenditures “unprofessional and sloppy…reports that do have all of these questions.”
Today’s deep dive confirms Marx has paid huge amounts of his contributors’ dollars to his family, friends and longtime associates. Thousands in campaign cash has been directed to Marx’s children, his campaign manager’s daughter, and their out-of-state companies.
CPR also found Marx’s campaign spent well over $150,000 during the campaign on security, including to a firm allegedly based in Nevada that lacked the required licensing and a consultant based in Texas. Marx’s campaign provided only an “evolving explanation” for the firm’s work, and claims the consultant, whose identity could not be independently verified by the reporter, is Marx’s “Director of Security.”
Marx’s campaign raised millions during the primary, but his incoming cash has become a trickle as recently as Tuesday, when Marx reported fundraising less than he was burning – a hole that may only grow with less than 26 days left to go until Election Day.
“Republican Victor Marx has breached the trust of Coloradans over and over again – softening his extreme beliefs in public, refusing to be held accountable at debates, and openly breaking the law. Today’s report is just more proof that Marx’s long con on Coloradans needs to come to an end,” said spokesperson Kailee Stiles.
