Rep. William Lindstedt Wins Senate District 25 Vacancy Election

DENVER – Tonight, with 98% of the vote, the Senate District 25 Vacancy Committee selected Rep. William Lindstedt to fill the vacancy created by the passing of Sen. Faith Winter.

The committee’s selection ensures the constituents of Senate District 25 will continue to be represented by a proven and prepared leader who will honor Sen. Winter’s legacy of selfless service, compassion and tireless advocacy for working families, civil rights and true equality.

"I’m honored by the trust placed in me to serve Senate District 25, especially at a time that has been devastating for our community. This isn’t how I expected to enter the State Senate, and I understand the weight of this moment for so many people,” said State Senator-Elect William Lindstedt.

“I’m ready to serve immediately and effectively. Throughout my time in public service, I’ve focused on affordability, lowering costs, and standing up for consumers. I’ve passed nearly fifty bills to expand housing, strengthen consumer protections, improve how government works, and hold powerful corporations accountable when they drive prices higher.

The rising cost of housing, health care, child care, utilities, and everyday necessities is putting real pressure on working people, and they deserve leadership that’s focused on solutions.

As chair of the House Finance Committee and the Legislative Audit Committee, I work every day on tough budget and oversight decisions. That experience has prepared me to lead responsibly and keep affordability front and center.

I’m ready to get to work immediately, collaborate with colleagues, and earn trust through results.”

“Faith Winter was a force in the Colorado Senate and a fierce advocate for her community,” said Senate President James Coleman. “While her loss is immeasurable, I know that Senator-Elect Lindstedt will work hard in the Senate to achieve Senator Winter’s vision of a stronger Colorado for all. I’m proud that Senate District 25 will continue to have a powerful advocate at the Capitol who understands the urgency of this moment and who is ready to hit the ground running on day one.”

“This vacancy committee was tasked with a difficult responsibility under heartbreaking circumstances,” said Colorado Democratic Party Chair Shad Murib. “Senator-Elect Lindstedt brings the experience, values, and commitment needed to serve this district with integrity and to carry forward the work Faith Winter believed in so deeply. From fighting for a more affordable Colorado to protecting people’s civil rights, residents of this district will be proud to be represented by Senator-Elect Lindstedt.”

“This vacancy committee stepped up during a difficult moment for our community and approached this process with the seriousness and care it deserved,” said Adams County Democratic Party Chair Beckie Bean. “Senator-Elect Lindstedt is ready to get to work for the people of Senate District 25. He understands the needs of this district, and brings a collaborative approach and steady leadership rooted in a deep respect for the legacy Senator Faith Winter leaves behind.”

"We are a tightly-knit community and Senator Winter's bright light will be sorely missed," said Broomfield County Democratic Party Chair, Sasha Davis. "Our shared values and commitment to our neighbors means that we show up, and we get the work done. That dedication is reflected in the leadership we choose. Senator-Elect Lindstedt brings that sense of responsibility to all of Senate District 25 and will serve with thoughtfulness, humility, and care for the people that call this district home.”
