DENVER — The Colorado Democratic Party welcomes the defeat of Amendment 86, which would have imposed additional constitutional requirements on congressional redistricting outside the regular census cycle.
Democrats opposed narrowing Colorado’s options for responding to efforts in other states to manipulate congressional representation.
“Fair representation should be a national standard,” said Colorado Democratic Party Chair Shad Murib. “Republicans should not be able to redraw maps for their own advantage elsewhere while expecting Colorado to limit its response. We thank everyone who helped defeat this measure. Our responsibility now is to defend Coloradans’ voice in Congress and keep working toward a democracy where voters can hold their leaders accountable.”
