Colorado Democrats Welcome Defeat of Proposition 136

DENVER — The Colorado Democratic Party welcomes the defeat of Proposition 136, which would have set Colorado’s current 4.4% income tax rate as a statutory maximum.

The measure offered no reduction in the current tax rate and threatened to complicate the separate proposal in Amendment 87 to reduce taxes for most Coloradans while increasing rates on the highest incomes.

“Working families deserve actual relief,” said Colorado Democratic Party Chair Shad Murib. “Proposition 136 would not have lowered their tax rate. We thank everyone who helped voters understand that distinction. Colorado Democrats will keep working for a tax system that asks more of those who can afford it and gives families struggling with everyday costs a fairer deal.”
